Just Getting Started
The idea of Support A Local Teacher (S.A.L.T.) came about in a discussion between Angela Maiers and Mike Sansone in preparation for a meeting with a large manufacturer in Iowa about professional development of local teachers.
The genesis of the idea was born due to some response by a few teachers wanting to attend Angela's Midwest Literacy Workshop, but not having the funds to attend. Mike thought this was ridiculous. Not that teachers wouldn't pay, but that they couldn't get corporate sponsorships from area businesses.
For years, the business community has cried out how education is not preparing the right kind of workforce necessary. Here, we have teachers willing to learn -- and it's our hope that an organization like S.A.L.T. can bridge the gap between business and education.
More to come...

I'm with you. Get the corporation to put their money where their bottom line is. Having educated workers starts with a good education at all levels. I think Corporations could do more. In the end they benefit the most from our education because we make them rich with our talents and expertise.

Thanks for the support, Trixie. Companies can use some of the resources left in the lobbying hallways to support teachers and educators.

Great idea Mike! I'm sure many corporations would be willing to participate.

Chris,
Let's hope that you are right! Teachers really do want to learn, unfortunately if is often up to them financially and personally to do so. If businesses really want to see change in the workforce, helping the classroom teacher is their best bet!

As an educator ( former public schools) and a business person, let me know what/how/when I can help. The disconnect needs to be reconnected...KUDOS!
